hello my name is

August 12th, 2017

I’m just going to act like I’ve done this before and get to the part where I talk about the food.
But to be honest, all of this was unknown territory for me at one point. I’d never written a blog, never cooked food like this, never taken pictures like that or known how my recipes could help others. It was a happy accident, like when you’re walking down the street and find a 20 dollar bill.

When I first started cooking I wanted to do it because my goal was to be self-sustainable and help myself. One night I randomly thought to myself, “Hey this food looks good, I think it would be cool to share it with others.”

Little did I know that I’d be embarking on my own “culinary journey,” which would lead to building a website, creating videos and helping others. It made me feel like a kid again, back in school making macaroni art then showing every single kid in the class my creation till the teacher told me to sit down.

As I kept posting more, people began to start sending me messages asking for the recipe.
Wait recipe? I don’t really have one; I’m just cooking it all together in a pan, throwing it on the plate and taking a picture.

I had reached a fork in the road; I could start getting serious about this or stay on the straight and narrow path.
It’s all fun and games until they ask for the recipes right? So I decided to pick up my metaphorical sword and rush
headfirst into the great culinary unknown.

Video editing and website design were skills I had to fall back on (shout to all my professors).
It made me glad I paid attention in college, cause let’s face it; 4 years can go by quick.

When I first published my website I felt kind of like a proud parent watching my child take his first steps.
They weren’t all that pretty and at times he stumbled, falling to the ground like a baby bird from the nest.
With tears streaming down his face and a sad look of despair in his eyes I’d walk over to comfort him.
“Hey you’re okay, brush yourself off and keep walking.” He’d wipe away the tears, regain his composure
and press on, one front in front of the other.

My website has kind of been like that, figuratively speaking, and to a lesser degree without any tears because we all know computers can’t cry. I was learning things as I go, adding, subtracting and asking my best friend every other day to check out my site.
It was a process to really find that sweet spot where I was happy with how the site looked.

When you think about it, everything is a process. Everyone has to go through it in one form or another at some point in their lives.
You don’t go to work one day, work on that huge project, go home then wake up in the morning to suddenly have it be finished.
It takes time and sometimes it requires baby-steps to get to your goal. If it were quick and easy then everyone would do it and nobody would ever appreciate the process. Basically it would be like “oh you want a new car? Sure just Amazon Prime it” (Not a paid endorsement by Amazon Prime merely used metaphorically).

Everybody also has their own speed; some naturally lose weight quicker than others. We have to appreciate the process and realize that it’s a journey to weight loss, good health or whatever it is you’re striving towards.

I know I’ve said it a million times but it really is a marathon, not a race.
